4 Stages of Discipleship
In the last decade, and especially over the last year, people have become more and more isolated and tethered to their screens. In this digital age, it is getting harder and harder to disciple people, especially young people. Discipleship is the one over-driving force to anyone’s walk with Jesus. You can learn a lot by watching and reading alone, but it is something else to go toe to toe with someone through life who is older and wiser than you. We all need people who will intentionally pour into us on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. I am not just talking about attending church on the weekends or a weekly group Bible study, although those might be a great place to start if you’re not participating at all. In fact, only 20% of Christians are involved in any sort of discipleship activity like weekly studies or weekend services, according to Barna. So if you’re not currently attending other studies through a local church now is the time to start.
Discipleship goes even further than that though. Finding someone who will intentionally pour into you and “do life” with you is so valuable. Just like there were only 20% who were involved in general discipleship activities, only 17% meet with a spiritual mentor as part of their discipleship efforts.
